About the Training:

The 2026 Master Gardener Training Program is a 14-week virtual course running from August 12 through November 18, 2026. Weekly On-line assignments are completed through CANVAS on your own schedule prior to the required Wednesday evening Zoom classes, held from 7:00 to 8:30 PM. The program also includes in-person, hands-on Saturday field trips. Basic computer access and skills are required for participation.

Community Service Requirements:

Upon completing the course, each trainee contributes 50 hours of volunteer service with their local Virginia Cooperative Extension. Volunteer opportunities include assisting answering horticulture questions at the help desk, assisting with or delivering educational programs, supporting project teams, or providing help to other Master Gardeners in a variety of community-focused activities.

To maintain Master Gardener status after the first year, volunteers must complete 20 hours of service and 8 hours of continuing education annually.
